What Matters Most?

Values are at the core of who you are as a person and your goals and activities can never be outside of your value system. If you have goals that are not congruent with your values, you’ll be conflicted and you probably won’t get it done. And at the very least, you will be at odds with yourself about it.

Here is a good analogy. If you’ve never really been a money centric person in your only goal in entrepreneurship is to make money, then you’re not going to be happy. That’s just a good example. If you want to spend time with your family and you decide on a role that takes you away from your family – you will not be happy.

So your values say what matters most in your life. What is it that is at your core that makes you feel fulfilled on a day-to-day basis? It can be anything, it can be some physical things like a family. It could be your home life. It could be friends. It could be traveling. It could be a way that you feel like honesty or integrity.

You really need to sit down and think what really matters to you and especially if you’re younger. This may have a bearing on your direction in life – and you will rely heavily on how you grew up and past experiences in order to determine what your values are.

Please write all this down. Don’t just think about it. Write it down and reflect on what you want out of life. I would schedule time for it. I wouldn’t try to do it while you’re driving or just in the spare time. I would actually schedule time – maybe go camping or go on vacation and dedicate some time to really pulling your life plan together
